Group Description

The Institute of Molecular Regenerative Medicine of the Paracelsus Medical University aims to develop stem cell based regenerative approaches. We are focusing our research on adult neural stem cells and adult neurogenesis. We are investigating endogenous neural progenitors and their regulation in physiological and pathophysiological events. Moreover, we are studying and using mesnchymal stem cells for their potential use in treatment of neurological/neurodegenerative diseases.
As technical platform, we develop fluorescent optical bioluminescent and MRS imaging for neural progenitors and for adult neurogenesis. We identified and used the promotor of the neuronal precursor protein doublecortin (DCX) to express fluorescent (EGFP, DsRed2) and bioluminescent (firefly luciferase) specifically in young immature neurons in vitro and in transgenic mice. More recently, we investigated MRSI as a potential tool to image neurogenesis.
