A major scientific focus is diagnosis and characterisation of dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB) and vascular dementia, conditions that overlap extensively with Alzheimer’s disease (AD), using a range of different techniques. The Depts of Old Age Psychiatry and Geriatric Medicine are undertaking prospective studies of patients with dementia and stroke with detailed clinical, neuropsychiatric, neurological and computer based psychometric testing to identify regions of the brain which are affected by disease.
